Gary Ablett is a certainty to poll 3 votes in this match. The little master collected a whopping 43 disposals and was clearly the best player on the field. One thing looks certain here and that is Scott Pendlebury and Dane Swan will take home the 3 and 2 votes for this game. It is a pretty tough ask considering they had almost identical stats for this game, but Pendlebury was slightly more damaging. It was the Ben McGlynn and Adam Goodes show as the Swans knocked off Geelong at fortress Skilled Stadium. Will be interesting to see how the umpires see this one as I think McGlynn was more influential. Luke Hodge looks set to help himself to another 3 Brownlow votes for a starring role in the Hawks big win over the Bulldogs. Fantastic win by Richmond and it was setup by the work of Trent Cotchin who was sensational for the Tigers. Elite Falls ran good races in the Golden Slipper and Sires Produce and gave every impression she’d develop into a top line three-year-old.  She’s won at her only attempt on slow going but barrier two could represent a significant problem should the Warwick Farm surface chop-up late in the day because of the rain. The filly is quality but the price is poison.

Pane In The Glass ran brilliantly in both the Sires and Champagne and is a promising middle distance type who likes to get back and run home off a solid speed. Barrier 11 could be a valuable asset for jockey Craig Williams come race seven and should the leaders run along solidly, Pane In The Glass could be the horse to beat. At $4.90 he’s a great each-way gamble.

Streama was successful at his only heavy track run last preparation and looked a horse on the up. He has form around the top-line two-year-olds and is right up to this.

Gold Coast and Adelaide will meet for the second time this season on Saturday with Adelaide winning the first meeting 130-73 way back in round 8. Yet another crucial round this weekend. Both sides sit out the eight and a loss will spell the end of their seasons. Nothing on the line in this match except pride. It was announced this week that Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade would no longer be coaching them next year so he has little to prove except to go out on a winning note. Port Adelaide on the other hand are the basket case of the AFL and there a parallels between them and Fitzroy of the mid-90s.

The Power has lost their past two matches by a combined 303 points and has scored only 53 points in a fortnight. They have lost their past 4 straight against the Bulldogs by an average losing margin of 51 points. So this is another potential blowout for them if those trends are anything to go by. Melbourne vs Richmond

Melbourne and Richmond will close out the round in a match that has absolutely no bearing on the final eight. Melbourne have had their struggles in recent weeks and will start outsiders after Richmond caused a massive upset last weekend by defeating finals bound Sydney. This match could go either way, so it is a tough game to tip on.

The Dees have won their past three matches against Richmond by an average winning margin of 37 points. The last time the Tigers beat them was in 2009 with an after the siren goal which has since been revealed by former coach Dean Bailey as the match Melbourne tanked in. Will there be more tanking this time out? Melbourne by 18 points.

Scott Pendlebury is unlikely to poll after a quiet game against St Kilda. He now has teammate Dane Swan to contend with too after a string of big performances has seen him draw back to the pack. St Kilda vs Collingwood

Leon Davis is certainly taking the votes home in this game. The 3 votes is a moral given he absolutely dominated, in fact he didn’t even have an opponent for half of the match and he ripped St Kilda apart. Dane Swan had the ball on a string and will get 2 votes, while it is a tossup out of Dale Thomas, Ben Johnson and Harry O’Brien for the remaining vote. View full details.

Hawthorn vs Port Adelaide

Cyril Rioli did the damage in this game. He had 4 goals at quarter time and set up a stack more throughout the day and looks a certainty for the 3 votes. Lance Franklin booted 8 goals so it is fair to say he’ll be considered for the 2 votes. Sam Mitchell did plenty of nice things and is likely to poll the 1 vote, with Jordan Lewis and Liam Shiels the others in contention. View full details.

Fremantle vs Carlton

Another Carlton win, another 3 votes for Chris Judd. He was spectacular yet again and could be set to break some records this Brownlow night. The remaining votes look likely to be shared between Marc Murphy and Eddie Betts. Murphy had plenty of it and did a heap of damage, but Betts booted 6 goals and was dangerous all day. Western Bulldogs vs Essendon

Brent Stanton played perhaps the best game of his career and as a result it will see him take home 3 votes for his efforts. Hard to see anyone else in this match toppling him in this one. Michael Hurley was also very good and should get the 2 votes. The remaining vote is very hard to call, Dustin Fletcher was superb, but so too was Paddy Ryder as well. View full details.

Brisbane vs Gold Coast

Simon Black appears a shoe in to grab the 3 votes in this match. There were no real stand outs in what was an even performance, but Black is the one who caught my eye, plus he is a proven Brownlow poller. Reden was very good too and is a chance for the 2 votes. I’d probably go Matthew Leuenberger for the remaining vote, but Brent Staker did ok. View full details.

Melbourne vs West Coast

Tricky game to pick votes in this one. The two who caught my eye were Andrew Embley and Andrew Gaff of the Eagles. Embley did plenty of nice things, but so too did Gaff, so take your pick. I’d expect Matt Priddis to be involved in the votes too, but Shannon Hurn also impressed and James Frawley did well for Melbourne. Look at Embley, Gaff and Priddis. View full details.

Richmond vs Sydney

The 3 votes in this clash will be going to either Trent Cotchin or Bachar Houli. It is a pretty tough call, but I’d be leaning slightly towards Houli as he had an absolute blinder. Cotchin too was very good and will be sure to grab at least 2 votes. I’d give the nod to Alex Rance for the 1 vote as he impressed me, but Brett Deledio did well too and will be tough to beat. View full details.

Adelaide vs Geelong

Super game from youngster Rory Sloane of the Crows. He played a ripper match and nearly got his team over the line against the highly fancied Cats. Corey Enright was the best of the Geelong players and will also be in contention for 3 votes with Sloane. The match of the round is on Friday night this week as St Kilda take on Collingwood in what is a replay of the Grand Final last year which the Pies famously won. Collingwood are flying at the moment, and so too are the Saints, but a poor start has meant the Saints will miss out on a top four birth. This should be a cracker of a match though.

The Pies have won 3 of their last 4 (one was a draw) against the Saints by an average winning margin of 54 points. However the fact that match is being played at Etihad Stadium plays into the Saints hand. They have won 4 of their past 5 against the Pies at the venue by an average of 59 points. This one could be close. Collingwood by 11 points.

Hawthorn vs Port Adelaide

This has another potential massacre written all over it, a margin that could well exceed 100 points. With blowouts the common trend as of late, it is hard to see how Port Adelaide will escape one here given the form of the Hawks. The Power have only won 2 games at the MCG since 2007 and this will be their first trip to the venue this season.

Port Adelaide does actually have an ok record against the Hawks surprisingly. They have won 3 of their past 5 against the Hawks, including 4 of the past 5 here at the MCG. But with the Hawks getting players back from injury and the state of both teams form, there is absolutely no way in the world  the Power will win this one. Hawthorn by 85 points.

Fremantle vs Carlton

Very crucial this match for different reasons. Fremantle face an absolute must win as it is likely they will miss the finals should they drop this match. Similar for Carlton, should they lose this then they will almost certainly miss out on the top four birth they have been chasing. The odds suggest the Blues will win, but Dockers will be hard to beat.

The Dockers have won 12 of their past 14 matches against the Blues dating back to 2002 and have won the past two matches, including two tight ones last year. Carlton have many players returning this week including Jarrad Waite, Shaun Hampson and Andrew Carrazzo. I think they will be too strong, even at Patersons Stadium. Carlton by 21 points.

Western Bulldogs vs Essendon

Another big match between two sides looking for a finals birth. The Bulldogs have the faintest of hopes to make the finals, but they are still mathematically possible of making it. Essendon sit in eight spot and should all matches go as planned, this is the position they are most likely to finish in. But the Bulldogs will be coming out firing with all guns blazing.

The Bulldogs have won 7 of the past 9 clashes head to head, however it was Essendon that prevailed by 55 points when they met earlier this season. The match is pretty even betting wise, but on current form it is hard to look past the Bombers. I think they will get the job done by a couple of goals after a big finish. Essendon by 14 points.

Brisbane vs Gold Coast

The second instalment of the match they call ‘The Q Clash’. I’m sure this match will turn into a pretty big rivalry over time, but at the moment it is a battle between two cellar dwellers. The only prize on the line here is that the winner will finish above the other on the ladder, so should the Suns win they will be pretty pumped to finish above their Qld rivals.

The first meeting was back in Round 7 when Gold Coast won 124-116 in one of the most exciting matches of the year. Gary Ablett is still only a 50/50 chance of taking the field so it is crucial for the Suns chances that he plays. Betting suggests the Lions are big favourites to win and I also think they will win this game too. Brisbane by 22 points.

Melbourne vs West Coast

West Coast will move another step closer to taking a top four spot this weekend when they travel to take on Melbourne, one of the easiest tasks in football at the moment. Amazingly, this will be the first time since 2000 that the two sides will have met each other at Etihad Stadium and only the second time in history. Richmond vs Sydney

Richmond meet Sydney at the MCG on Sunday in a match the Swans are favoured to win. The Swans are still no guarantee to make the finals and a loss here could be disastrous for them, particularly given they still have a trip to Geelong at Skilled Stadium to come in coming weeks. Richmond certainly won’t make it easy for them here either.

History shows that Sydney has dominated this fixture for the best part of a half decade having won 9 of the past 10 clashes head to head. Richmond’s only win was a 7 goal comeback win last year right here at the MCG. The Tigers have several injury concerns though and you just can’t see the Swans dropping a match like this. Sydney by 22 points.

At odds of $1.06 they are pretty much unbackable, so look over 39.5 points in this one. Geelong by 62 points.
