The 2011 AFL season is now officially finished after the completion of Round 24 this weekend. There were a few late chargers too in the final week’s which could really shake up Brownlow Medal betting.

Chris Judd remains the strong favourite, but he will not be polling in the final 3 rounds so that could make things interesting. Adam Goodes has come home like a freight train and is actually second in betting at some agencies.

Scott Pendlebury remains one of the stronger choices to beat Judd, but he has teammate Dane Swan to contest votes with and that proved costly last year for Swan. Matthew Boyd is also another player in the mix after a strong finish.

Final tallies can be found at Phantom Brownlow Medal right now with all the Team Leader odds and detailed stats for each player, so head on over and check it all out.

Round 24 Brownlow Medal Votes

Round 24 means the final tallies are in. I’ve quickly reviewed the round just gone below, but a more detailed look can be found at our official site at Phantom Brownlow Medal.

Collingwood v Geelong

Geelong cruised to an unexpected 96 point win over the Minor Premiers and it was Daniel Menzel who dished out plenty of punishment with 5 goals. He should get the 3 votes and James Kelly also starred and should poll 2. Paul Chapman is most likely to poll the 1 vote, but do not discount the efforts of Travis Varcoe and Joel Selwood. View full details.

Gold Coast v Hawthorn

Gary Ablett is a certainty to poll 3 votes in this match. The little master collected a whopping 43 disposals and was clearly the best player on the field. I really liked the efforts of Luke Bruest with 5 goals and expect him to poll well. It is hard finding a third best player, but it could be Brandon Matera, Sam Mitchell or Brendan Whitecross. View full details.

Western Bulldogs v Fremantle

Another big win by the Bulldogs and another big effort by Matthew Boyd who will definitely poll 3 votes here. He is on absolute fire at the moment! Robert Murphy stood out a heap despite only getting 16 disposals. Ryan Griffen starred as well and will be amongst the votes. Daniel Cross and Michael Johnson will be unlucky to miss out. View full details.

Sydney v Brisbane

Adam Goodes did the damage in this one and the dual Brownlow Medallist is a moral to add to his collection of 3 vote games. Josh Kennedy was second best and will get the 2 votes, while the remaining vote is a little harder to work out. Rhyce Shaw was good, but so too were Gary Rohan and Jude Bolton. I would probably go with Shaw. View full details.

Carlton v St Kilda

The Saints ended the season with a win, but it will be Carlton’s Kade Simpson who should poll the 3 votes after his 40 disposal game. Leigh Montagna was the best of the Saints while Adam Schneider was almost just as good. These three players are most likely to poll, but do not discount Lachie Henderson or Brendon Goddard either. View full details.

West Coast v Adelaide

Andrew Embley put in a monster effort for the Eagles in an absolutely dominant performance which will certainly see him poll 3 votes. Shuey was also very impressive and i am tipping him for 2 votes. Chris Masten really impressed too for the second week running. Dean Cox was solid in the ruck, while Thompson had 40 touches for Adelaide. View full details.

Port Adelaide v Melbourne

Brent Moloney finished the season where he started it with a potential 3 vote game. He is my tip for the 3 votes and it will be very close with Justin Westhoff who also impressed me heaps. Brett Ebert is likely to poll the 1 vote but will face some stiff competition from Jack Trengove of Melbourne and team mate Travis Boak of Port Adelaide. View full details.

Richmond v North Melbourne

Brent Harvey finished off the season with his best performance of the year, one that will net him the 3 votes. Dustin Martin played really well for the Tigers and I think he will poll the 2 votes, while Robin Nahas booted 5 goals and should poll the 1 vote. I would also include Leigh Adams and Aaron Edwards as potential vote getters too. View full details.

With Carlton having the bye, it meant that Chris Judd and Marc Murphy could not poll and after quiet games last week, it has been a perfect chance for the pack to catch up.

And catch up they have. Scott Pendlebury and Dane Swan are almost certain to poll the 3 and 2 votes for their efforts against Fremantle and it is possible both players could be a few votes behind Judd now, with one round remaining.

Adam Goodes is also on fire and is most definitely in the mix, but looks a better top three chance than the winning chance. It should definitely be an exciting final round, that is for sure.

You can get the leaderboard over at our Phantom Brownlow site which currently has Judd ahead of Sam Mitchell (ineligible), Scott Pendlebury, Dane Swan, Marc Murphy and Adam Goodes.

Round 23 – Brownlow Medal Votes

I have written down my quick thoughts about each match in Round 23 and who I think will poll the votes. But for a more closer look at the leading contenders from each game check out Phantom Brownlow Medal now.

Fremantle vs Collingwood

One thing looks certain here and that is Scott Pendlebury and Dane Swan will take home the 3 and 2 votes for this game. It is a pretty tough ask considering they had almost identical stats for this game, but Pendlebury was slightly more damaging. Dane Beams should get the 1 vote, but don’t discount Ben Reid or Travis Cloke either. View Full Details.

Geelong vs Sydney

It was the Ben McGlynn and Adam Goodes show as the Swans knocked off Geelong at fortress Skilled Stadium. Will be interesting to see how the umpires see this one as I think McGlynn was more influential. It is pretty hard finding the 1 vote too, I liked Shane Mumford’d game, but Jude Bolton and James Kelly played well too. View Full Details.

Hawthorn vs Western Bulldogs

Luke Hodge looks set to help himself to another 3 Brownlow votes for a starring role in the Hawks big win over the Bulldogs. Buddy Franklin was also amazing booting 5 brilliant goals, while Grant Birchall will also be in the mix to poll a vote. I expect these three to grab the votes, but Brad Swell and Paul Puopolo will be close. View Full Details.

St Kilda vs North Melbourne

Brendon Goddard was very impressive and looks most likely to poll 3 votes in this match. I expect Nick Dal Santo to get 2 votes, but Nick Riewoldt played into a bit of form with 5 goals so he will also go very close to getting 2 votes as well. The outside chances are Leigh Montagna and Stephen Milne who were very good for Saints. View Full Details.

Brisbane vs West Coast

Very hard to overlook Chris Masten for the 3 votes in this match. He was super in what was his best game yet for the Eagles. Tom Rockliff was the best of the Lions players and I can see him polling 2 votes, while Luke Shuey is most likely to get the 1 vote. Watch out for Daniel Rich and Matthew Priddis who also starred as well. View Full Details.

Adelaide vs Richmond

Fantastic win by Richmond and it was setup by the work of Trent Cotchin who was sensational for the Tigers. He looks a lock in for the 3 votes with Nathan Van Berlo of Adelaide not too far behind him and likely for the 2 votes. I think Bernie Vince will get the 1 vote for his work, while Brett Deledio and Nathan Foley are in contention. View Full Details.

Melbourne vs Gold Coast

It was the Colin Garland show at the MCG on Saturday as the young Demon played his best game yet for his club. Sam Blease is another youngster who impressed and I’m predicting he will poll the 2 votes. Brent Moloney also stood out and will get the 1 vote, with Michael Rischitelli and Brad Green not too far behind them. View Full Details.

Essendon vs Port Adelaide

Essendon were lucky to escape with a win in the end. Robbie Gray done some serious damage to the Bombers booting 6 goals and becoming a lock for the 3 Brownlow votes. His teammate David Rodan was an everywhere man and should get 2 votes while Travis Boak is my tip for 1 vote. David Hille and Michael Hurley were good for Essendon. View Full Details.

Dane Swan continues to firm with his odds being slashed in. He will surely poll 3 votes and could now be ahead of Scott Pendlebury. We know he is a good vote poller so could he be worth a value bet?

Adam Goodes is also on fire and looks set to grab himself another 3 votes, while Matthew Boyd continues to get amongst it grabbing 39 disposals and booting 3 goals this week for a certain 3 votes.

Round 22 – Brownlow Medal Votes

Round 22 matches have been reviewed below, but as usual if you want a more detailed look at the round just gone then head on over to Phantom Brownlow Medal.

Carlton vs Hawthorn

Jordan Lewis done the damage in this one and looks a moral to score the 3 votes after keeping Chris Judd quiet. Josh Gibson played a starring role down back keeping the Blues to 1 goal in the first half, while Kade Simpson was amazing in the second half and could poll. Chris Yarran and Luke Hodge will also be in contention too I think. View Full Details.

West Coast vs Essendon

Daniel Kerr will almost certainly poll 3 votes for his demolition job against Essendon. He had plenty of the ball and was dangerous all afternoon. Scott Selwood stood up for his best game of the year, while NAB Rising Star favourite Luke Shuey should go close to polling. Matthew Priddis and David Zaharakis are outside chances. View Full Details

Gold Coast vs Adelaide

When a player polls 51 disposals in a game of footy it is hard not to fancy them to take the 3 votes home. That is exactly what Adelaide’s Scott Thompson did against the Suns. Gary Ablett was fantastic too and should be in the votes again. Take your pick for the 1 vote out of Nathan Bock, Kurt Tippett and Sammy Jacobs. View Full Details

Collingwood vs Brisbane

Collingwood got the job done, just. Dane Swan was sublime with 33 disposals and 2 goals and should take home the 3 votes. Travis Cloke booted 5 goals and starred up forward, while Jack Redden was the best for the Lions, so I’d expect these guys to get the votes. Also, don’t discount Luke Ball and Scott Pendlebury either. View Full Details

North Melbourne vs Fremantle

The Roos won by 98 points so it is fair to say their players will make up all the votes in this clash. It was Andrew Swallow who impressed me the most with 30 disposals, so I think he will have locked away the 3 votes. Daniel Wells played a starring role and I have him marked down for 2 votes, while Leigh Adams should poll. View Full Details

Sydney vs St Kilda

Not the most thrilling of games, but Adam Goodes stood ahead of the pack with a blistering performance. Hard to see him not polling the 3 votes in this one. Shane Mumford is my tip for the 2 votes for his work in the ruck and around the ground, while Jarrad McVeigh also stood out. Watch for Ryce Shaw and Ted Richards. View Full Details

Port Adelaide vs Western Bulldogs

Matthew Boyd is a definite lock for the 3 votes as he was clearly the best player on the ground. He amassed 39 disposals and booted 3 goals. Jason Tutt impressed on debut and I can see him polling 2 votes, while Daniel Cross also stood out. Barry Hall booted 6 while Shaun Higgins may also be an outside chance to poll. View Full Details

Online bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au has Black Caviar at $1.70, ahead of Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper champion Sepoy at $3.00 and the up-and-coming Kulgrinda at $6.50.

“Sepoy is a superstar and Kulgrinda definitely looks the real deal, but they’ll struggle to beat the mighty mare over 1200m at the Valley should Peter Moody decide to run her,” Sportsbet.com.au’s Haydn Lane said.

“She may head to the Schillaci instead, but we’ve got to keep her in the market for now so punters are getting over the odds on every other horse in the race.”

The Warwick Stakes generally serves as the start of the spring carnival but Sydney’s weather this week has resembled a winter monsoon. The Warwick Farm track will most likely be a heavy 10 for the meeting.

It’s therefore no surprise to see such an early avalanche of support for noted mudlark Sacred Choice. The Doncaster Handicap winner has only one first-up win in her career and that came on a heavy track at Rosehill in February last year. With the likelihood of constant rain between now and the Warwick Stakes, Sacred Choice has to go on top of the selections.

The consistent and race fit Pinwheel should position up close to the speed and is capable on heavy ground. The son of Lonhro deserves his place at the top of the Betfair market but would have been better suited in dryer conditions.

Get a $50 First Bet Refund on this race today by registering an account with Betfair.com.au

Much interest will centre on the resuming stayers headed for the spring classics. Maluckyday was the runner-up in last year’s Melbourne Cup and connections will want to see a much improved effort first-up. He trialled well enough to indicate a bold showing is possible first-up.

Patinack Farm galloper Gathering notched up a group one victory in the Railway Stakes in Western Australia last year and is a tough on-speed stayer that will be suited by a perceived lack of tempo.

Ilovethiscity suffered a hoof injury during the week and has eased in the market as a consequence. He’s a good wet tracker but might find 1400 metres first-up a fraction touch. Veteran’s Black Piranha and Centennial Park always perform well in races of this nature and have each-way chances.

The track conditions and varying form lines make this Warwick Stakes a terrific betting affair. The heavy conditions will tempt the Betfair layers to oppose a number of runners ensuring good value.

The filly is quality but the price is poison.

Pane In The Glass ran brilliantly in both the Sires and Champagne and is a promising middle distance type who likes to get back and run home off a solid speed. Barrier 11 could be a valuable asset for jockey Craig Williams come race seven and should the leaders run along solidly, Pane In The Glass could be the horse to beat. At $4.90 he’s a great each-way gamble.

Streama was successful at his only heavy track run last preparation and looked a horse on the up. He has form around the top-line two-year-olds and is right up to this.

Aerobatics shares similar form lines to Streama and has been the only galloper solidly backed in early trading, firming from $9.40 to $8.40.

“From all reports Leon Cameron has impressed in assistant coaching stints at both the Bulldogs and Hawks and is a senior coach in waiting. While Cameron seems the obvious choice, there’s certainly something romantic about Mick Malthouse heading back to the Whitten Oval and there’s no doubt he’ll be high on the Bulldogs’ wish list” Sportsbet.com.au’s Haydn Lane said.

Eade’s departure has caused a shake up of the Melbourne and Adelaide next coach betting markets, so much so that Eade is now the outright favourite to lead the Demons in 2012. Eade is priced at $3.00 to be the next senior coach of the Dees, and is the $3.50 second favourite behind caretaker coach Mark Bickley at $2.50 to lead the Crows next year.

“We don’t believe ‘Rocket’ will be lost to football and now that he’s officially free next year he’s our clear favourite to take the reins at the Dees,” Lane said. ”Mark Bickley has made a good fist of his caretaker role so far but Eade will now have to come under serious consideration for the Crows role too.”

Four of the matches have an absolutely massive bearing on how the finals will play out so there will be plenty of eyes on the action this week.

It kicks off with style as Carlton and Hawthorn play in the match of the round. Other crucial matches include the West Coast and Essendon match, North Melbourne up against Fremantle and the Sydney versus St Kilda match on Sunday.

Remember we have threads for each match on our betting forum at PunterZone.com.au so you can discuss your tips with other punters. Plus you can get yourself a $200 Bonus Bet at Sportingbet thanks to their brand new promotion.

Make a first deposit of just $30 or more to your brand new betting account.

Sportingbet will then match that deposit with a bonus bet of the same value.

Carlton vs Hawthorn

Massive way to kick off the round with third up against fourth. The Hawks are currently favourites but it is hard to discount the Blues on current form. This is a perfect way for each side to see where they are at with the finals just around the corner and given both sides have the ability to go deep in September, this match is absolutely crucial.

History shows that Carlton has not beaten Hawthorn since 2005, having lost their past 7 against Hawthorn by an average of 44 points. The Blues seem to struggle at Etihad Stadium, but the good news is Michael Jamison could be in line to be recalled. I doubt the Hawks will lose this one, but I think it could be tight. Hawthorn by 13 points.

Gold Coast vs Adelaide

Gold Coast and Adelaide will meet for the second time this season on Saturday with Adelaide winning the first meeting 130-73 way back in round 8. A lot has changed since then, the Crows now have a new coach and have rejuvenated themselves with a good few weeks of footy. But they will be wary of the Suns here who could offer some strong resistance.

The line is 27.5 points and I think there is some real value here, particularly given the Crows have won only 1 of their past 8 trips interstate. Ironically, their last win interstate was last week against Brisbane, also in Queensland. Adelaide should win, but look at the Suns to cover the line as it could be a pretty close game. Adelaide by 16 points.

West Coast vs Essendon

Essendon make the trip west to take on West Coast on Saturday arvo in what is one of the most crucial matches of the round. The Bombers need a win to keep up their hunt for a finals spot, or even a home final. West Coast must win if they want to secure that top four birth and get themselves a home final should they lose week 1 of finals.

The bookmakers show West Coast as pretty short favourites, but this is exactly the type of situation Essendon thrive on and they are more than capable of causing an upset. They beat West Coast earlier in the season, but have lost 4 of their past 5 against the Eagles and their past 7 against West Coast dating back to 2001. West Coast by 36 points.

North Melbourne vs Fremantle

Yet another crucial round this weekend. Both sides sit out the eight and a loss will spell the end of their seasons. Should Essendon lose to the Eagles, the winner of this match will have a real big chance of making the top eight, given the Bombers have the Bye in round 24. The bookies have North Melbourne as pretty short favourites at $1.33.

Since 2005 these two sides have been rotating victories with the ledger squared at 4-4 apiece. The bad news for Fremantle is that they hate playing at Etihad Stadium. In fact they have won just 2 of their past 15 at the venue dating back to 2006. They have been hammered on their past 3 visits here this season as well. North Melbourne by 43 points.

Collingwood vs Brisbane

This match has blowout written all over it and we could have another one of those 100 point wins coming our way. Collingwood are unbackable at $1.01 and there is absolutely no way they will lose this one. Strangely enough, Brisbane actually beat Collingwood last year, however that match was played at the Gabba. This match is at the MCG.

In fact, Brisbane have won 3 of the past 5 matches head to head including 6 of the past 9 matches here the MCG. Two of those wins includes the 2002-03 Grand Finals, however they have not won here since 2007. Collingwood look morals to win this by a big margin and the line is currently 74.5 points which they should get. Collingwood by 110 points.

Sydney vs St Kilda

Sydney and St Kilda meet on Sunday at ANZ Stadium and there is plenty on the line. Should the Swans win they will basically guarantee themselves a finals birth and a potential rematch against the Saints in week 1 of the finals. St Kilda on the other hand are playing for a home final which they will almost certainly get should they win this match.

The Saints are big favourites, especially given the poor run of form by Sydney in recent weeks. St Kilda have won their past 3 against the Saints, but they have been by margins of 8, 1 and 15 points so they have been tight matches. The Saints have won 3 of their past 4 trips to Sydney and travelling to this venue holds no fear. St Kilda by 18 points.

Port Adelaide vs Western Bulldogs

Nothing on the line in this match except pride. It was announced this week that Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade would no longer be coaching them next year so he has little to prove except to go out on a winning note. Port Adelaide on the other hand are the basket case of the AFL and there a parallels between them and Fitzroy of the mid-90s.

The Power has lost their past two matches by a combined 303 points and has scored only 53 points in a fortnight. They have lost their past 4 straight against the Bulldogs by an average losing margin of 51 points. So this is another potential blowout for them if those trends are anything to go by. Hopefully it’s not too ugly! Western Bulldogs by 76 points.

Melbourne vs Richmond

Melbourne and Richmond will close out the round in a match that has absolutely no bearing on the final eight. Melbourne have had their struggles in recent weeks and will start outsiders after Richmond caused a massive upset last weekend by defeating finals bound Sydney. This match could go either way, so it is a tough game to tip on.

The Dees have won their past three matches against Richmond by an average winning margin of 37 points. The last time the Tigers beat them was in 2009 with an after the siren goal which has since been revealed by former coach Dean Bailey as the match Melbourne tanked in. Will there be more tanking this time out? Melbourne by 18 points.

It was a similar story to most weeks with our leader Chris Judd expected to poll yet another 3 votes for his big game against the Dockers and he now looks a formality to win his third Brownlow Medal.

Scott Pendlebury is unlikely to poll after a quiet game against St Kilda. He now has teammate Dane Swan to contend with too after a string of big performances has seen him draw back to the pack. Sam Mitchell will be ruing the day he got suspended as he could well and truly end the count with the most votes.

The only other genuine chance appears to be Marc Murphy. He was good again on the weekend and could even end up with 2 votes, but that still won’t be enough to topple Chris Judd. He could be on 20+ votes, but it is likely Judd will be past 30 votes by now and well in the lead.

Round 21 Brownlow Medal Votes

Below you’ll find my quick thoughts on each match and who I think will feature in the votes. But for a more detailed look at the round you should head on over to Phantom Brownlow Medal which has everything you could possibly need.

St Kilda vs Collingwood

Leon Davis is certainly taking the votes home in this game. The 3 votes is a moral given he absolutely dominated, in fact he didn’t even have an opponent for half of the match and he ripped St Kilda apart. Dane Swan had the ball on a string and will get 2 votes, while it is a tossup out of Dale Thomas, Ben Johnson and Harry O’Brien for the remaining vote. View full details.

Hawthorn vs Port Adelaide

Cyril Rioli did the damage in this game. He had 4 goals at quarter time and set up a stack more throughout the day and looks a certainty for the 3 votes. Lance Franklin booted 8 goals so it is fair to say he’ll be considered for the 2 votes. Sam Mitchell did plenty of nice things and is likely to poll the 1 vote, with Jordan Lewis and Liam Shiels the others in contention. View full details.

Fremantle vs Carlton

Another Carlton win, another 3 votes for Chris Judd. He was spectacular yet again and could be set to break some records this Brownlow night. The remaining votes look likely to be shared between Marc Murphy and Eddie Betts. Murphy had plenty of it and did a heap of damage, but Betts booted 6 goals and was dangerous all day. Bryce Gibbs was good too. View full details.

Western Bulldogs vs Essendon

Brent Stanton played perhaps the best game of his career and as a result it will see him take home 3 votes for his efforts. Hard to see anyone else in this match toppling him in this one. Michael Hurley was also very good and should get the 2 votes. The remaining vote is very hard to call, Dustin Fletcher was superb, but so too was Paddy Ryder as well. View full details.

Brisbane vs Gold Coast

Simon Black appears a shoe in to grab the 3 votes in this match. There were no real stand outs in what was an even performance, but Black is the one who caught my eye, plus he is a proven Brownlow poller. Reden was very good too and is a chance for the 2 votes. I’d probably go Matthew Leuenberger for the remaining vote, but Brent Staker did ok. View full details.

Melbourne vs West Coast

Tricky game to pick votes in this one. The two who caught my eye were Andrew Embley and Andrew Gaff of the Eagles. Embley did plenty of nice things, but so too did Gaff, so take your pick. I’d expect Matt Priddis to be involved in the votes too, but Shannon Hurn also impressed and James Frawley did well for Melbourne. Look at Embley, Gaff and Priddis. View full details.

Richmond vs Sydney

The 3 votes in this clash will be going to either Trent Cotchin or Bachar Houli. It is a pretty tough call, but I’d be leaning slightly towards Houli as he had an absolute blinder. Cotchin too was very good and will be sure to grab at least 2 votes. I’d give the nod to Alex Rance for the 1 vote as he impressed me, but Brett Deledio did well too and will be tough to beat. View full details.

Adelaide vs Geelong

Super game from youngster Rory Sloane of the Crows. He played a ripper match and nearly got his team over the line against the highly fancied Cats. Corey Enright was the best of the Geelong players and will also be in contention for 3 votes with Sloane. Scott Thompson was another good payer for the Crows, while Joel Corey and Joel Selwood will be in the mix. View full details.

With only four rounds remaining to the finals, Round 21 is a crucial round indeed.
St Kilda vs Collingwood

The match of the round is on Friday night this week as St Kilda take on Collingwood in what is a replay of the Grand Final last year which the Pies famously won. Collingwood are flying at the moment, and so too are the Saints, but a poor start has meant the Saints will miss out on a top four birth. This should be a cracker of a match though.

The Pies have won 3 of their last 4 (one was a draw) against the Saints by an average winning margin of 54 points. However the fact that match is being played at Etihad Stadium plays into the Saints hand. They have won 4 of their past 5 against the Pies at the venue by an average of 59 points. This one could be close. Collingwood by 11 points.

Hawthorn vs Port Adelaide

This has another potential massacre written all over it, a margin that could well exceed 100 points. With blowouts the common trend as of late, it is hard to see how Port Adelaide will escape one here given the form of the Hawks. The Power have only won 2 games at the MCG since 2007 and this will be their first trip to the venue this season.

Port Adelaide does actually have an ok record against the Hawks surprisingly. They have won 3 of their past 5 against the Hawks, including 4 of the past 5 here at the MCG. But with the Hawks getting players back from injury and the state of both teams form, there is absolutely no way in the world the Power will win this one. Hawthorn by 85 points.

Fremantle vs Carlton

Very crucial this match for different reasons. Fremantle face an absolute must win as it is likely they will miss the finals should they drop this match. Similar for Carlton, should they lose this then they will almost certainly miss out on the top four birth they have been chasing. The odds suggest the Blues will win, but Dockers will be hard to beat.

The Dockers have won 12 of their past 14 matches against the Blues dating back to 2002 and have won the past two matches, including two tight ones last year. Carlton have many players returning this week including Jarrad Waite, Shaun Hampson and Andrew Carrazzo. I think they will be too strong, even at Patersons Stadium. Carlton by 21 points.

Western Bulldogs vs Essendon

Another big match between two sides looking for a finals birth. The Bulldogs have the faintest of hopes to make the finals, but they are still mathematically possible of making it. Essendon sit in eight spot and should all matches go as planned, this is the position they are most likely to finish in. But the Bulldogs will be coming out firing with all guns blazing.

The Bulldogs have won 7 of the past 9 clashes head to head, however it was Essendon that prevailed by 55 points when they met earlier this season. The match is pretty even betting wise, but on current form it is hard to look past the Bombers. I think they will get the job done by a couple of goals after a big finish. Essendon by 14 points.

Brisbane vs Gold Coast

The second instalment of the match they call ‘The Q Clash’. I’m sure this match will turn into a pretty big rivalry over time, but at the moment it is a battle between two cellar dwellers. The only prize on the line here is that the winner will finish above the other on the ladder, so should the Suns win they will be pretty pumped to finish above their Qld rivals.

The first meeting was back in Round 7 when Gold Coast won 124-116 in one of the most exciting matches of the year. Gary Ablett is still only a 50/50 chance of taking the field so it is crucial for the Suns chances that he plays. Betting suggests the Lions are big favourites to win and I also think they will win this game too. Brisbane by 22 points.

Melbourne vs West Coast

West Coast will move another step closer to taking a top four spot this weekend when they travel to take on Melbourne, one of the easiest tasks in football at the moment. Eagles are firing all cylinders at the moment having won 8 of their past 9 matches overall. Melbourne have lost their past 3 games this season by an average losing margin of 105 points!

Amazingly, this will be the first time since 2000 that the two sides will have met each other at Etihad Stadium and only the second time in history. It is not a venue that suits Melbourne, they have lost 15 of their last 16 matches here and have not won here since 2007. They have copped plenty of poundings here too. West Coast by 56 points.

Richmond vs Sydney

Richmond meet Sydney at the MCG on Sunday in a match the Swans are favoured to win. The Swans are still no guarantee to make the finals and a loss here could be disastrous for them, particularly given they still have a trip to Geelong at Skilled Stadium to come in coming weeks. Richmond certainly won’t make it easy for them here either.

History shows that Sydney has dominated this fixture for the best part of a half decade having won 9 of the past 10 clashes head to head. Richmond’s only win was a 7 goal comeback win last year right here at the MCG. The Tigers have several injury concerns though and you just can’t see the Swans dropping a match like this. Sydney by 22 points.

Adelaide vs Geelong

Adelaide will host Geelong on Sunday afternoon to bring Round 21 to a close. The Cats have won their past two matches in the past fortnight by 186 and 150 points and an injury riddled Adelaide is a team that will hold no fears for them. The Crows do have some players returning this week, but a big loss looks the most likely scenario for them in this one.

Geelong has won 6 of their past 7 meetings against Adelaide by an average winning margin of 35 points. The Cats have also won 5 of their past 6 trips to AAMI Stadium dating back to 2006, so they certainly know how to win at the venue. At odds of $1.06 they are pretty much unbackable, so look over 39.5 points in this one. Geelong by 62 points.
